For students, participating in an exchange programme is an exciting and challenging way of broadening their horizons. It provides an opportunity to gain experience of living and studying in a new culture and environment. During the programme, students are provided a unique chance to:

Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Exchange Programme

LUMS has signed an MOU with Erasmus Mundus (Erasmus Mundus Action 2 scheme-EMA2) for the academic year 2011-12. The EMA2 is a co-operation and mobility scheme in the area of higher education co-operation launched by Europe Aid Cooperation Office and implemented by the Executive Agency Education, Audiovisual and Culture (EACEA). This programme foresees mobility for undergraduate and graduate students and academic staff, from Asian universities to European institutions. The programme offers students from LUMS an opportunity to study at any one of the following European participating universities:

EURECA Exchange Programme

In 2008, an exchange programme with European Research and Educational Collaboration with Asia (EURECA) was initiated. The EURECA consortium comprises 16 prominent educational institutions (Europe: 9, Asia: 7). As a partner institution from Pakistan, LUMS was able to utilise fifty seats out of the sixty allocated seats. The programme ended in April, 2011. Through the programme, LUMS students had an opportunity to study at one of the following European participating universities:

Fulbright Exchange Programme

The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USFEP) is managing the Undergraduate Exchange Programme for Pakistan, which is intended to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and Pakistan. It will provide full-time undergraduate students from Pakistan, an opportunity to enrich their educational experience through one semester/one year of full time, non-degree academic study in the United States.

As new programmes are initiated or eligibility criteria changes over time, applicants are advised to check programme availability, programme conditions and other selection criteria with the LUMS Admissions Office before proceeding with their application.


Eligibility

Prior to applying for an exchange programme, the applicant should have completed at least one year as a full-time student at LUMS.


How to apply?

  • An invitation email is sent out to the students which provides them all the details regarding the exchange programme i.e. information about the host university, course offerings, time period of the programme, funding body, selection criteria and deadline for submitting applications
  • Interested students are asked to submit Statement of Purpose (SOP) to the coordinator exchange programme by a certain deadline mentioned in the email
  • An SOP form is designed and sent to the students (attached with  an invitation email)
  • Students are shortlisted by the selection committee (faculty member , director and exchange programme coordinator, Office of Student Affairs) for an interview on the basis of their academic achievements at LUMS and SOP
  • A minimum CGPA criterion is set to scrutinise the SOP
  • A list of common applicants who are strongly recommended by the selection committee is prepared
  • Shortlisted students are informed of the selection and invited for interviews
  • After the interviews, a list of selected students is prepared in order of priority on the basis of their academic achievements at LUMS, SOP and interview scores

Students should be informed that taking the necessary steps to acquire a visa is their own responsibility. The LUMS exchange programme coordinator only helps students complete their documents and provide necessary information.
