Dr. Ejaz Akram joined the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at LUMS in August 2005. He holds a PhD in World Politics (Specialisations: Religion & Politics and Comparative Political Philosophy) from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. He also holds two MA degrees; Master of Arts in Comparative & Regional Studies (Middle East & South Asia) from the School of International Service at American University in Washington D.C., and Masters of Arts in International Relations from CUA, Washington, D.C. Before joining LUMS, Dr. Akram was at the American University in Cairo and currently he is also part of the summer Adjunct faculty of Franklin College, Switzerland. Dr. Akram's research and teaching focuses on Islam and the Muslim world, but also the religio-political issues and political philosophies of Judaism, Christianity and Hinduism. He teaches a variety of courses such as: Religion and World Politics, Islamic Philosophy and Theology, Islamic Political Philosophy, Western Political Philosophy, Islam and the West, and Global Politics of the Environment. Dr. Akram has published several books, scholarly articles, reviews and editorials, and appeared on several radio and television programs in North America, the Middle East and South Asia. His book Ideals and Realities of Regional Integration in the Muslim World: The Case of the ECO, was published by Oxford University Press; He is currently working on his second book Traditional Political Philosophy of Islam: A Remedy for Disaster Times; Some of his recent monographs and articles are Political Philosophy of Iqbal in the Light of Tradition, Islam-Christian Relations: Impact of Western Missionary Activity on Coptic-Islamic Relations in Egypt; Crisis of Parliamentary Governance in Pakistan: An argument for Presidential Federalism, Globalisation and the Muslim World: Modernity and the Roots of Conflict in Islam and Ummah and Transnational Muslim Solidarity. His other scholarly works (Journal articles and Book Chapters) have focused on subjects relating to the interface of religious studies and political philosophy; religion and the dialogue of civilizations; and religious resurgence and fundamentalism. Those have appeared in refereed journals such as the Journal of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, Islamic Studies and American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences. He has also authored several book chapters and journal articles in the field of international relations and intelligence studies. Dr. Akram has also contributed to numerous dictionary and encyclopedia articles and holds editorial and academic positions in Europe, United States, Middle East and South Asia.
