What are the requirements for LUMS Continuing Students?
Students should have sufficient course work in Economics and should meet the following criteria:
- SCGPA of 3.00 or above in Economics and
- SCGPA of 3.00 or above in Mathematics
Note: Direct admission will be suited to the following majors
- Economics
- Economics and Mathematics
- Economics and Political Science
Direct admission does not mean that the students will be directly admitted. They will only be exempted from all the tests and admission will be based on merit. Note: Please note that the deadline to Apply for Fall 2012 in MSc Economics Program is May 24, 2012.
What are the requirements for LUMS Graduate Students?
LUMS students who have graduated on and before June 2011 are required to take the Economics Placement Test and LGAT or GRE.

What is GRE (General)?
GRE (General) is offered as a computer adaptive test worldwide. GRE taken five years before the admission deadline will not be considered valid. Applicants need to take the GRE through Educational Testing Service (ETS), USA latest by February 11, 2012 in order to be considered for admission. GRE (General) scores must be reported to LUMS officially from the testing agency. The college code for reporting GRE (General) scores to LUMS is 0679.

The GRE Bulletins are available at www.gre.org.
What if I don’t have my GRE scores by the application submission deadline?
You must submit your complete application and supporting documents including your GRE score report on or before the deadline. Please ensure that you list LUMS as a university to receive your scores when you take the test. The college code for reporting GRE (General) scores to LUMS is 0679.
What is LUMS Graduate Admission Test (LGAT)?
LUMS Graduate Admission test (LGAT) is offered as an alternative test to GRE for applicants who for some reason cannot take the GRE. Please note that the LGAT will be held once on June 09, 2012. LGAT is administered in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
Who can apply for LUMS MSc Economics Placement Test?
All students applying to the one-year MSc Economics Program must take the Economics Placement Test. This test will be based on Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics and Basic Econometrics. The Placement Test is not required for candidates applying for the two-year track. The placement test is administered in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
Do you prefer GRE over LGAT?
No, preference is given to any one of them. If you have taken both GRE and LGAT then we will consider the better scores.
What is the minimum score required in LGAT for admission?
No, there is no minimum score requirement.
What is the registration process for the LGAT?
Applicants can get registered for the LGAT through online application form: www.lums.edu.pk. After the online application submission, applicants will be required to send the all the supporting documents to LUMS Admissions Office on or before the deadline i.e. May 24, 2012.
How can I prepare for LGAT? Do you recommend any book for LGAT?
You can prepare for LGAT by consulting preparatory books available for Old GRE General.
What is the duration of the LGAT?
The duration of LGAT is approximately three hours.
What is the LGAT registration fee?
The fee to take LGAT is:
Regular Registration: Rs. 2500
Walk-in Registration: Rs. 5000
How can I submit LGAT fee?
- Through bank draft/pay order drawn in favor of Lahore University of Management Sciences
- Online, through http://pay.lums.edu.pk/default.asp
- By depositing cash at the MCB Booth located on the LUMS campus
Who are walk-in Candidates?
Please note that candidates who have submitted online admission application but for some reason cannot pay fee within the deadlines will be treated as a walk-in candidate. Please bring following on the test day:
- A print out of the acknowledgement email that you have received after application submission;
- Two recent passport size photographs with plain white or off-white background;
- Original NIC with a copy and;
- 5,000 Rupees (Only cash will be accepted)
Note: Walk-in requests will only be entertained on space availability basis.
By which date should applicants expect their Test Registration cards to be delivered?
Test Registration Cards will not be mailed. Test cards will be available within the application in printable form once all the requirements are met.
I have submitted my online application & all the required documents on time, what if I am unable to view my Test Registration Card?
If an applicant is unable to view his/her Test Registration Card despite completing all the requirements then he/she can write to us at helpdeskao@lums.edu.pk latest by 04th June 2012.
I have already informed the helpdesk what if I do not get a response from helpdeskoa@lums.edu.pk?
Please note that it takes at least 48 working hours to respond back to such queries. Applicants must wait till the required time and do not rush the helpdeskao by writing continuously.

Is there any processing fee for the Msc Economics Program?
All Pakistani residents applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application processing fee of Rs.4,000/-. However, all foreign/overseas applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application processing fee of US $100.
What supporting documents should I attach with my application?
You should enclose the following documents with your application:
- A completed online application form;

Attested/Certified Copies of Complete Academic Transcripts and Certificates of:
- Secondary School Level
- Intermediate Level
- Bachelor's Level
- Master's Level (If applicable
Note:
Applicants who have not completed their latest degree must complete it before the commencement of classes for the Fall 2012 session. They are required to submit a copy of their latest transcript along with other supporting documents on or before the submission deadline.
- Two complete Letters of Recommendation in sealed envelopes;
- GRE Score report (if Applicable);
- Four passport size photographs with white background;
- Two copies of the National Identity Card or valid Passport
- The application processing fee of Rs 4,000* (for Pakistani Residents only);
- The application processing fee of US $100 (for Foreign/overseas residents only);
- The LGAT registration fee of Rs 2,500;
- Proof of payment;

I have received my transcripts for the BSc (Hons) but I do not have the degree. It will be awarded at the next convocation. What do I do?
You should submit all your transcripts by May 24, 2012. Copy of the degree can be submitted later.

May I request for the application fee refund?
No, the application fee is non- refundable. Once the application is submitted the application fee will not be refunded.
What are the chances of getting a job after completing my MSc Economics Program from LUMS?
The Career Services Office at LUMS is actively involved in seeking jobs for the graduates. This office helps students in resume writing, prepares profile book of graduates, conducts career fairs of companies at LUMS, provides career counseling and arranges company presentations and interviews.
