Dr. Faqir M Bhatti from Centre for Advanced Studies in Mathematics (CASM) and Mathematics Department, Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), presented a paper on ‘Some Degree Sequences of the Inner Dual Graphs of Plane rigid Hexagonal Systems’, at the International Workshop on Optimal Network Topologies(IWONT 2012), in Bandung, Indonesia as a speaker. The workshop was organised by the INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG (ITB), in collaboration with ICTP, Italy International Mathematics Union and it was held from July 26 - July 30, 2012.
The research paper is the outcome of a research project in which two undergraduate students from SBASSE and Research Associate (RA) Fariha Khalid were involved. The paper was based on the research related to the Inner dual graphs of Hexagonal Systems. These graphs have very special structure and which leads to different class of graphs other than trees and ordinary triangular lattice. The main focus was to find the degree sequences of such graphs ≤ 6 and related other properties. Another aspect of the finding was to find an exact relation between the degree Sequence and the coefficients of ordinary generating functions.
Participants from various countries participated in the workshop and Dr. Bhatti had a fruitful discussion with Prof. LE Tuan Hoa, Director of the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Studies in Mathematics and President of the South-East Asia Mathematical Society which represents ten ASEAN countries. During the workshop Dr. Bhatti also invited many researchers to visit LUMS next year which included Prof. Saieed Akbari from Sharif University of Technology, Iran and various other people from Australia, France, Singapore and Czech Republic.
