Only a fortnight after the convocation of the Class of 2012, LUMS proudly shares exciting news of our graduates acquiring their jobs and taking the first step onto the path of success.

Our very first batch of Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) has received an overwhelming response from the job market. A number of our Computer Science graduates have received job offers from Microsoft, USA before graduation and will join Microsoft in Fall 2012. One of our electrical engineering undergraduates is working with National Instruments at an international assignment. He was selected for the position against 1200 contending applicants from across Pakistan.

The number of our students going abroad to pursue further studies increases every year. The graduates from SBASSE have been accepted into distinguished Master’s and Doctoral programmes in leading universities. Twenty students from the School will be joining graduate programmes in renowned universities in Europe and USA; fifteen of them were accepted in PhD programmes, four in MS/MRes programmes and one student was admitted to a D. Phil programme. Students from the LUMS Bachelor’s stream have been placed with salaries as high as PKR 88, 000 per month. Out of the total number of offers made, 23% are at PKR 88,000 while 78% of the offers made to these students are above PKR 50,000 per month.

We are pleased to share that 50% of the students going for further studies have received scholarships. A quarter of the students receiving scholarships have received full funding. The universities they will be joining include, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, LSE (London) or Glasgow, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, University of Oxford, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of Warwick, King's college London, Purdue University, USA and many other Ivy league Universities.

The MBA Class of 2012 has made us proud with a host of offers already lined up from companies like McKinsey&Company, Dubai; IFFCO, Dubai; Dunia Finance LLC, Dubai; Philip Morris Pakistan; Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) Pakistan; Standard Chartered Bank; Unilever; Telenor; Servis Industries; Engro Corporation; Shell; Reckitt Benckiser Pakistan; Pakistan Tobacco Company; Fatima Group and Intech Process Automation. The packages offered to our graduates are equally exciting averaging to a monthly salary of PKR 100,000 where 40% of the offers made are above the average salary.

L’Oreal has commenced recruitment from LUMS this year with one MBA 2012 graduate selected for L’Oreal Pakistan while others still in process for another opportunity in L’Oreal, Middle East. However, the recruitment process for the MBA batch is still underway with companies, including Nestle Pakistan, PepsiCo International, Haleeb Foods, Mobilink, Chevron Pakistan, Zoom Petroleum, National Foods and Aisha Steel Mills.

McKinsey&Company, Dubai, in addition to hiring from LUMS since 2006, also opened its doors to us for its internship programme this year.

One of our MBA 2012 graduates secured an internship offer at Credit Suisse Bank, Hong Kong (leading to recruitment upon successful completion). He competed with the world’s top talent for this offer which included Harvard, Stanford, U Chicago, Columbia etc. This has permanently opened our recruitment channel with one of the world’s top-rated financial giants.

One 2013 MBA student accepted an internship offer from Bank of America-Merrill Lynch, Hong Kong (again leading to recruitment upon successful completion). This was a single slot available at the time and graduates from across the world competed for the offer where our student emerged successful. This is another top-ranked financial institution with which our recruitment connections have established through this first success.

Another first year MBA student accepted an internship offer from VimpelCom, Amsterdam; one of the world’s largest integrated telecommunications services operators. Our student confirmed selection after a series of interviews and has the honour of being the first Pakistani student to be considered for an internship with the company. VimpelCom had a policy of hiring only Europeans, but our student succeeded in breaking this chain and procured a seat from all local competition.

LUMS is pleased with the success of its graduates and wishes them well for their future endeavours.
