The Swedish Ambassador for Human Rights, His Excellency (H.E.) Hans Dahlgren visited LUMS on Thursday, April 19, 2012. He was accompanied by a high level delegation, including H.E. Lars-Hjalmar Wide, Swedish Ambassador to Pakistan.
The delegation met Dr. Adil Najam, Vice Chancellor, LUMS for lunch, during which they were given an overview of LUMS by Hassan Mahmood, from the Department of Resource Development and Alumni Affairs. They also got an opportunity to converse with faculty members Dr. Anjum Altaf, Dean, School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law (SHSSL) and Dr. Ali Qazilbash, Chair, Department of Law and Policy.
Later, a large group of students also joined the colloquy. H.E. Dahlgren presented Sweden’s perspective on human rights, stressing their belief in the universality of human rights, freedom of expression, and the right to life. Students and other audience members were also allowed to ask questions during the meeting.
Dr. Najam thanked H.E. Dahlgren for his openness during the discussion. The event further reinforced the strong connection LUMS has with Sweden. This relationship was celebrated in March this year with a tree planting ceremony when Foreign Minister Carl Bildt visited the LUMS campus. H.E. Lars-Hjalmar Wide was also present at the ceremony.
