Biology Research Seminar at LUMS: Transcription Initiation
The Department of Biology at SSE- LUMS brings a research seminar on:
Probing Determinants of Transcription Initiation in Sulfolobus Solfataricus
by
Mr. Abbas Raza, the Research Assistant
Dr. Sohail A. Qureshi, Supervisor
Date: Monday, May 21, 2012
Time: 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Venue: Smart Lab, Computer Science
About the Seminar
The existence of a separate transcription initiation pathway in archaea which involves no transcription accessory factors like TFB/TBP has led us to speculate the direct binding of RNAP to initiator sequences within the genome. It will clearly be of great interest to determine what kinds of INR sequences are more accessible to this DNA-protein interaction. In light of this, it is tempting to identify which sub-unit of RNAP actually has the affinity towards DNA in initiating this pathway.
