Students from Jaffarabad, Baluchistan, Visit LUMS
A group of 36 cadets from Cadet College Jaffarabad visited LUMS on May 24, 2012.
The cadets and their teachers were warmly received by the marketing team. Mr. Hassan Mahmood, Manager, Resource Development and Alumni Affairs (RD & AA) at LUMS, shared with the cadets, the rich history of the university and its vision for the future. He said that what is of utmost importance is how the outside world perceives LUMS as an institution of higher learning.
In this regard, Mr. Mahmood gave a few examples of the achievements of the university, including the ranking as the top business university by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the inclusion of LUMS faculty member, Dr. Umar Saif, in the list of top 35 young innovators by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) technology review and the award of PhD scholarships by best universities to undergraduate students of the biology department.
He also described the National Outreach Programme in detail and shared the achievements of Karrar Hussain Jaffar, an NOP graduate who performed exceptionally well at LUMS, won the Fulbright Scholarship and got admitted in Harvard University.
The Vice Chancellor of LUMS, Dr. Adil Najam also met the cadets and asked them about their careers plans. He told them why the university places great emphasis on merit and how it is focusing on reaching out to the entire country.
The marketing team also took the cadets for a tour around the campus. Mr. Mudassir Iqbal Umair who teaches Urdu at Cadet College Jaffarabad said that such visits create an opportunity for the young students to interact with and get inspiration from success stories across Pakistan.
