What is meant by Financial Aid?
Financial aid is purely a need based scholarship programme that depends entirely upon the need of the applicant.
What are the minimum requirements for diploma holders (DAE)?
Applicants with diploma may apply if they have secured minimum 65% marks or above, however, they are required to submit equivalence from IBCC.
How do we apply to SHSSL/SDSB/SSE?

How competitive is admission to LUMS Undergraduate Programme?
Admission to the LUMS Undergraduate Programme is highly competitive and the Admissions Committee is able to offer admission to only a small fraction of all applicants.
What are the main subjects in A’ Levels in order to get admission in LUMS?
LUMS does not indicate any specific subject requirement for SDSB & SHSSL admissions; however, as per minimum eligibility criteria the requirements are 2 Bs and 1 C in three principal subjects such that there should be no more than 1 C grade or less than a C. For details on principal subjects you may consult British Council or CIE. No credit will be given for General Paper.
For the admission in SSE, applicants are required to take A’ Levels in at least 3 principal subjects (with at least 2 Bs and 1 C grade such that there should be no more than 1 C grade and no grade less than a C across three principal subjects in the A' Level examination). The principal subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics. No credit will be given for General Paper. Any deviations from this list would be examined on a case to case basis and the decision of the Admission Committee would be final.
Does it affect a student’s chance to get into LUMS if (s) he has appeared privately over a regular student?
No, every student is evaluated upon his/her grades regardless of the fact whether someone has taken the exam through a school/college or privately.
Is it possible to transfer credits from another university to LUMS?
Yes, LUMS does accept transfers from universities in Pakistan and abroad recognized by HEC Pakistan. For details on transfer you may contact Admission Office or visit the link http://www.lums.edu.pk/admissions/transfer-students.php
May students who are admitted defer enrollment to another year?
No. Attending the first semester at LUMS is compulsory and deferment is not an option.
When do application decisions become available?
All admission decisions are made by the UG Admissions Committee and are final. As a result of the committee’s consideration, some applicants are admitted, some are placed on a waiting list, and the remaining applicants are denied. Acceptances are offered on a “rolling” basis between April and June. For this reason, your admission decision may arrive at a different time from a friend or classmate.
Is there a separate application form for the SHSSL, SDSB and SSE?
No, by default the LUMS online application system allows you to apply for the SHSSL, SSE and SDSB simultaneously.
Can I apply to more than one school i.e. SSE/SHSSL/SDSB simultaneously?
Yes, by default the LUMS online application system allows you to simultaneously apply to the SHSSL, SDSB and SSE.
How can I give my preferences for the SHSSL, SDSB and SSE through a common application form?
While applying to the SHSSL/SDSB/SSE, you will be asked to submit your preference between the Accounting and Finance Programme, the SHSSL Programmes, the BA-LLB Programme and the SSE Programmes. Admission in a specific programme is based on merit and the availability of seats.
Can I still apply for admission if I have taken A’ level retakes?
Yes, an applicant can apply for admission that has appeared in retakes of Nov 2011, for the application of year 2012.
Can I submit the retakes results after the submission of the application?
Applicants appearing for the Nov 2011 retakes must check the result awaiting option in the online application form. Applicants must inform the admission office the estimated time the retake result will be announced and delivered to the admission office.
Can I change my School after being offered admission?

I have not yet received an email of confirmation of my online application. What should I do?
You should check your online application status to check the completion and proper submission of your application form.
Do I need to get an equivalence certificate from IBCC?
Candidates who have completed 12 years of education other than FA/FSc, A’ Level or IB will be required to get an equivalence certificate from the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), Islamabad, Pakistan. For further information please contact:

Should the documents (transcripts/results) be attested?
Applicants must provide attested copies of original documents issued officially. Attestation of these documents is mandatory by concerned authority (School/College). Attestation other than the applicant’s respective school/college will not be acceptable.
How does LUMS assure the credibility of Transcripts/results?
The transcripts and results provided by the applicants are attested through the issuing authorities (British Council, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education).
Can the Admissions Office return my application documents to me?
Documents sent to the Admissions Office cannot be returned as they are for administrative purposes. Please make sure to take a copy for your own use before sending the documents to our office.
Do I have to send my transcript translated if it is not in English?
Yes, academic records from international universities that are not in English must be accompanied by an official English translation along with other supporting documents.
How many recommendations may I submit?
We strongly encourage the applicants to submit at least two teacher evaluations; they will add substantial value to your application. Therefore, you may submit minimum two letters of recommendations.
Who should my recommendations be from?
The recommendation form(s) should be from teacher(s) of your last institute. Recommendations from school/ college counselor(s) are not acceptable.
Can students begin studies at LUMS during the spring semester?
No. Admissions to LUMS takes place once a year and freshmen are admitted to the FALL semester only.
May I request for the application fee refund?
No, the application fee is non- refundable. Once the application is submitted the application fee will not be refunded.
Is there a wait list?
Since the number of students who accept our first round of admission offers varies each year, a small number of applicants stay on our wait list and in case space is available after the first round, students on the wait list are offered a place in the second round.
How many applicants are placed on the waitlist?
The number of candidates placed on the waitlist fluctuates from year to year, depending on the size and quality of the applicant pool.
How many applicants are offered admission from the waitlist?
It is difficult for us to provide specific probability of admission or the timing of a final decision, as the timeframe does vary. Applications can be re-reviewed by the Admissions Committee at any time, but this typically happens between March to June.
May I appeal my Admission Decision or ask to have the decision explained?
The admission process is a well deliberated and thorough process. Each year we receive a large number of outstanding applications. Unfortunately, all of them do not qualify because of the limited number of available seats. The decision of the Admissions Committee is final.
Are there any specific quotas for admission into LUMS?
There are no quotas for admission into LUMS.
Do I need to take an entrance test for admission to the SDSB/SHSSL Programme?
The LUMS Common Admission Test (LCAT) is MANDATORY for all applicants applying to the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) or the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law (SHSSL) except for applicants residing outside Pakistan and currently studying or having completed their last year of schooling abroad. Where can I take SATs and how do I register for SATs?
The SAT bulletin of information is available from American Centers in all major cities and from the Office of Admissions, LUMS or www.collegeboard.com.
In what circumstances will I be exempted from LCAT/SSE Admission Test?
Applicants residing outside Pakistan and currently studying or having completed their last year of schooling abroad would be exempted from LCAT/SSE Admission Test. Instead, they will be required to submit official results of the SAT Reasoning Test (SAT I) or/and SAT Reasoning Test (SAT I) and at least 3 of the 4 SAT II subjects (Biology-M, Chemistry, Mathematics II-C and Physics) depending on your choice of schools.
Is there a minimum SAT I score requirement for the foreign/overseas Pakistani applicants?
No, there is no minimum score requirement for foreign applicants and overseas Pakistani applicants.
What is the last date to take SAT I/ SAT II for admission for the session commencing August 2012?

I have taken the old version of the SAT I. Will you accept old SAT I?
No, the old version of SAT I is not acceptable.
I have taken SAT I/SAT II more than once, what score will be considered for the evaluation?

Calculators are not allowed for the SSE Admission Test.
By which date should applicants expect their Test Registration cards to be delivered?
Test Registration Cards will not be mailed. Test cards will be available within the application in printable tab form once the application is completed and submitted.
I have submitted my online application & all the required documents on time, what if I am unable to view my Test Registration Card?
The test cards will be available in the printable form after the application is completed and submitted along with the submission of required documents. The applicant should print their test card and bring it along to the respective test centre. If any applicant is unable to view his/her Test Registration Card despite completing all the requirements then he/she can write to us at helpdeskao@lums.edu.pk by 03rd Feb 2012.
I have already informed the helpdesk, what if I do not get a response from helpdeskoa@lums.edu.pk?
Please note that it takes atleast 48 working hours to respond back to such queries. Applicants must wait till the required time and do not rush the helpdeskao by writing continuously.
I have submitted my test fee; I want my test fee to be refunded?
Test fee can only be refunded if the applicant informs the admission office two weeks before the test date.
Does LUMS accept ACT scores?
No. LUMS does not accept results of the ACT.
Can I change my Test Centre?
Test Centre can only be changed in special circumstances (provided a reason) and the applicant must inform the Admission Office by 03rd Feb 2012. No request later than the specified date will be entertained.
What if I have to add few documents after the submission of application and documents package?
No documents will be added to documents package after the application deadline. Only the Result/ Transcripts will be added those declaration has been done after the application deadline.
Is it possible to apply after the deadline? What is the late application policy?
Applications submitted after the deadlines are not accepted.
How do I inform about a change in the online application?
It is highly recommended to fill out the application form carefully and thoughtfully. No changes will be made after the submission of online application. In sheer need an applicant must address the helpdeskao@lums.edu.pk with the specific header “Change in Application Form”.

Is financial aid available?
Yes, financial aid is available on need basis.
How and when do I apply for financial aid?
You should apply for financial aid while submitting your online application.
Is there a separate form for Financial Aid?
No, the application form for the financial assistance is within the admission application form.
Is there an adverse effect of Financial Aid on my application?
No, there is no adverse effect of Financial Aid on your application.
How many types of Financial Assistance is offered?
There are three types of financial assistance offered by LUMS:
Merit Scholarship
This scholarship covers full tuition fee for one year and is awarded to the top three students based on academic performance during the year.
Need Based Scholarship / Financial Aid
This is a need base scholarship provided only to undergraduate students.
LUMS Loans
This is a need based interest free loan provided only to graduate students.
Please explain the criteria of awarding financial assistance?
The Financial Aid department assesses the financial need of the students and determines whether or not the students and their families have adequate resources to finance education at LUMS.
Following is the list of the documents required for applying for financial aid:
• Salary certificate (or pension slip) of all earning family members
• Bank statements for last year of all family members having an account
• Income tax returns of all earning family members for last year
• Fee bill and any concession document from the last institution attended by the candidate
• Utility bills covering electricity, gas, telephone and water
• Saving certificates, bonds, shares, investments, CDC account statement (if applicable)
• Property ownership documents, including agricultural land, plots and houses (if applicable)
• Rental lease agreement (if applicable)
• Loan document(s), including credit card bills and bank loan statements (if applicable)
• Medical bills/expenditure related documents (if applicable)
• Fee concession (scholarship/loan) document(s) of sibling(s) (if applicable)
• Wealth statement for all family members for last year (if available)
• Candidate’s domicile certificate (if available)
• Candidates passport (if available)
• Any other document(s) demonstrating financial need
Can we apply for the financial aid during the semester?
Only those students' whose financial situation changes drastically due to unforeseen circumstances can apply for financial assistance during the semester.
Is every one eligible for the financial assistance?
No, only students whose families do not have enough resources to finance education at LUMS are eligible.
What is meant by Physical Verification?
The officials of the Financial Aid Office physically verify the credential / facts provided by the student applying for financial aid at the time of admission.
What's the effect of the physical verification?
The percentage of the financial aid can be increased, decreased or remain the same on the basis of the finding of the physical verification.
Can we appeal for review of the financial assistance decision?
No appeals shall be entertained against the decision taken at the first stage.
