The fourth issue [volume 3, number 1] of Gurmani Centre’s Urdu journal Bunyād is published. Among its contributors are Shamsur Rahman Faruqi, Muhammad Umer Memon, Khurshid Rizvi, Moeenuddin Aqeel, Asif Farrukhi and Mahmudul Hasan Bazmi. Dr. Syed Nomanul Haq, the Chief Editor of this journal, writes in his editorial about the significance of this particular issue.

Faruqi’s autobiographical essay is specially a rare piece of writing in which he shares his views on Urdu poetry, prose and literary criticism and states the reasons that kept him firm in his critical stance on different literary genres and works of Urdu poetry and writers. Memon’s translation from English to Urdu of an article about Ayn al-Qudāt Hamadānī by Japanese scholar Toshihiko Izutsu discusses Hamadani’s views about creation. Rizvi’s article brings into focus a rather over-shadowed aspect of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s interests…. spiritism, fairies and other supernatural phenomena. Of similar interest to the reader would be Moeenuddin Aqeel’s  account of the ‘first’ Urdu qawā’id composed by Ketelaar, Asif Farukhi’s study of the critical receptions of Intezar Husain, Mahmood Bazmi’s analysis of the Urdu translation of Shah Husain’s poetry and Dr. Haq’s inspiring translation from Ibn Mansūr Hallāj’s Kitāb al Tawāsīn.
