Intellectual Property Protection Workshop 2012

A one day workshop on Intellectual Property Protection was held at LUMS on May 11, 2012. This workshop, conducted through video conferencing, was organised by the University of Gujrat (UOG) and was attended by the staff of the LUMS Office of Graduate Studies and Sponsored Research (GSSR), faculty members and PhD students.

The workshop was conducted by Suhail Javed Chaudary, Assistant Controller of Patents and Design at the Patent Office, Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan. The participants were welcomed by Dr. Nizamuddin, Vice Chancellor of UOG.

Mr. Chaudhry has been examining patent applications for the last 8 years and has a vast experience of patent examination, especially in the field of biological, chemical and pharmaceutical sciences. He has attended numerous reputed international conferences on IP rights and patent examination and has examined more than 2000 patent applications to date.

During the workshop, Mr. Chaudhry briefly explain the importance of IP protection, different types of IPs, benefits to inventor nationally and internationally (IP rights) and how to prepare and file a patent application along with the fee structure.

Students, faculty and ORIC (Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation) staff from various universities like University of the Punjab, UET Peshawar, IMS, NED University, and University of Kohat also attended the workshop through video conferencing. The session ended with a question and answer session were many queries of the participants were addressed.
