Abstract
Flagella are appendages present on bacterial surface involved in swimming. Flagellum is a complex nanomachine made up of about 25 different proteins. It is composed of an extracellular filament, a membrane assembly (basal body) and cytoplasmic components. A type III protein export apparatus is present in the membrane assembly. It transports proteins through the membrane – which then assemble to form the flagellar filament. This work is based on characterisation of one of the export apparatus proteins, FlhA.
