All Pakistan Aspiring Writers Convention 2012 Held At LUMS

The LUMS Literary Society organised the ‘All Pakistan Aspiring Writers Convention 2012’ on April 15, 2012. The purpose of holding the convention was to encourage and hone the writing skills of young writers from schools and universities all over the country.

The competition received a large number of entries for various genres of writing both in English and Urdu which were judged by distinguished judges like Intezar Hussain, Zia-ul-Hassan, Saeed Ghazi and Bilal Tanweer.

The highlight of the event were the speakers at the convention, who shared their experiences and useful tips with the budding writers. The speakers included Mohsin Hamid, the author of ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ and ‘Moth Smoke’ and Mira Nair  director of Hollywood movies like ‘Vanity Fair’ and ‘Namesake.’  This was the first time that Mira Nair has attended an event at LUMS. Khurshid Rizvi and the famous Urdu short story writer Intezar Hussain also spoke to the audience. The event also included a panel discussion which was moderated by Bilal Tanweer and the Patron of the LUMS Literary Society, Dr. Noman ul Haq.

The LUMS Vice Chancellor, Dr. Adil Najam and the Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSSL), Dr. Anjum Altaf were also present at the convention and expressed their appreciation for the enthusiasm displayed by the students for participating in the writing competition. The event came to a conclusion with the announcement of winners and a prize distribution ceremony.
