MS Electrical Engineering

STRUCTURE

The electrical engineering department at LUMS, the largest at SSE, started in 2008 by offering a one of its kind undergraduate program in Pakistan. In 2012, the EE department graduated its first batch of undergrad students as it reached critical mass in research active full-time faculty and established research clusters in all important areas of EE. In the same year, the department started to offer new MS and PhD programs in electrical engineering by overhauling and majorly improving its existing graduate program in computer engineering.

The EE graduate programs at LUMS give students both a strong foundation and specialization in three important areas of electrical engineering: communication and networks, embedded systems and electronics, signal and image processing. Moreover, there is adequate opportunity to work with faculty and take courses in other important subjects for which course streams are not being offered currently. These include control systems, robotics, electromagnetic, optics and energy systems. Students are also strongly encouraged to collaborate with other disciplines at SSE such as Physics, Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics and Chemistry.

Masters of Science (MS)

A Masters degree provides the opportunity to delve deeper into the subjects that students get exposed to during their undergraduate degree. The EE MS program has the necessary rigor to enhance the understanding of the subject material, providing opportunity for better employment, and opening the doors to a teaching career or further graduate study.

The Department offers two types of MS degrees: MS-by-coursework-only and MS-with-Thesis. To graduate with a MS-with-thesis degree, the student must complete a 6 credit hour MS thesis under the supervision of a faculty advisor.
