Profiles of Panelists
Dr. Ali Khan, Dean and Associate Professor, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, LUMS
Dr. Khan’s research interests vary from labour issues to popular culture in Pakistan focusing particularly on cinema and sports. His last two projects have resulted in co-authored and edited books on cricket - Cricket Cauldron (I.B. Tauris, 2013) – and Pakistani Cinema – Cinema and Society (Oxford University Press, 2016). A second edited collection on cinema is in press and a new book manuscript on cricket and society is ready. He has an MPhil and a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge in England.
Mr. Osman Samiuddin, Sports Journalist and Author
Mr. Samiuddin is currently serving as a senior editor at ESPNcricinfo, where he contributes as a columnist and is editor of the site's digital magazine, The Cricket Monthly. He was formerly a sports writer with The National in Abu Dhabi. He is the author of The Unquiet Ones - A History of Pakistan Cricket. His work has appeared in a number of publications, including the Guardian, Daily Telegraph, Wall Street Journal, India Today, the Wisden Almanack, The Age (Australia) and Dawn.
Ms. Zainab Abbas, Sports Presenter and Television Host
Ms. Abbas is the first female presenter from Pakistan to work in sports broadcasting on an international level. She has presented for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), T10, Cricingif, Ten Sports, Star Sports and Sony. In 2019, she became the first Pakistani female presenter for the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Cricket World Cup. She has hosted the sports programme, 'Cricket Dewangi' on Dunya News, in addition to the web-series talk show, 'Sawal Cricket Ka'. She has also made several appearances on BBC’s highly reputed Test Match Special. She also writes sports pieces for Pakistani independent news outlets, Dawn and Dunya News.
Mr. Imran Ahmad Khan, General Manager Commercial, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)
Mr. Khan is currently working as General Manager Commercial, Pakistan Cricket Board. In this role, he works on commercial and marketing strategy, and broadcast production for all Pakistan Cricket Board projects. Mr. Khan was part of the core team that launched HBL PSL, Pakistan’s biggest sporting event. He also currently leads the player recruitment process for the League, contributing to the return of top-flight cricket to Pakistan. He holds a BSc from LUMS and an MS from Columbia University.
