Profiles of Panelists
Dr. Syed Ismail Shah
Dr. Shah is a renowned ICT professional, with expertise spanning cellular, internet and digital technologies. He is serving as the ITU representative for Southeast Asia and Timor-Leste since January 2018. In the past, he served as Chairman, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. He was also given the additional charge of CEO, Ignite, an ICT R&D Fund Company. He was instrumental in taking Pakistani start-ups to the 4YFN programme at the MWC 17. He has been an active member of the BoD of USF, ICT R&D Ignite, KPK IT Board, Frequency Allocation Board, PTCL, UFONE and PEMRA. Dr. Shah also served as VP of the General Assembly of the APT and has been a keynote speaker and a sought-after panelist on major global events.
Mr. Ahmed Bilal Masud
Mr. Masud is currently working as Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Huawei. He has over 21 years of experience in the ICT industry and has made major contributions in 3G and 4G for Pakistan and worked hard to make it to 5G. Before starting at Huawei at Motorola Networks Ltd., Pakistan, he worked for over 4 years in NSS at Jazz. His skills include WiMAX, GSM, 3G, Telecommunications, LTE and Wireless. In his previous role, he was responsible for virtually Managed Services, Data Centre, Virtualization and Cloud Architecture.
Mr. Parvez Iftikhar
Mr. Iftikhar has over 40 years of experience in ICT in the public as well as private sectors, in-country as well as abroad. He is currently providing consulting services on Telecom Policy and Regulation Telecom Administrations in Asia and Africa, mainly through global organisations like World Bank, International Telecom Union, USAID, DFID (UK), Commonwealth Telecom Organisation, and various private consulting houses in Europe and USA. In between, he also serves the country pro bono in various capacities, including member of Prime Minister’s Task Force on IT and Telecom; member of Federal Government’s Advisory Committee for 5G Planning in Pakistan and member of subgroup of Planning Commission’s Advisory Committee on ICT.
Dr. Zartash Uzmi
An academician, researcher and entrepreneur, Dr. Uzmi has been a LUMS faculty member since 2002 after receiving his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He is the founder of various initiatives at the University including the LUMS Space Observatory, the 4G/5G Lab and the LUMS Centre of Entrepreneurship (now NIC, Lahore). Dr. Uzmi is also the Co-founder of Confiz and Pakwheels. He has been instrumental in building a strong bi-lateral channel between the industry and the top academia of the country, serving on several advisory and selection boards. Presently, he also serves on the Prime Minister’s National Task Force on IT and Telecom.
