SBASSE Conducts Biology Talk Titled “CDC14A phosphatase is essential for hearing and male fertility”

Wednesday, June 20, 2018 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm
SSE Dean’s Smart Lab, 4th floor

Date: 20th June 2018 (Wednesday)
Time: 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Venue: SSE Dean’s Smart Lab, 4th floor
Host: Dr. Amir Faisal

Guest Speaker:
Dr. Ayesha Imtiaz

Pathogenic variants of the Cell Division-Cycle-14A gene (CDC14A), encoding dual function phosphatase, cause deafness and male infertility syndrome. Using CRISPR/Cas9 technology, we engineered CDC14A phosphatase-dead mutant mouse and zebrafish and investigated mechanisms of CDC14A action in the auditory and reproductive systems by computational, biochemical and cell biology in vivo functional studies.

Dr. Imtiaz received her M.Sc degree from Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, University of Punjab (PU), Lahore in 2009 and PhD from the School of Biological Sciences, PU, Lahore in early 2015 after two years of predoctoral research fellowship (2013-2015) at NIH, USA. Since April 2015,  Dr. Imtiaz is a post-doctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Dr. Thomas B. Friedman, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National Institutes of Health, USA (NIDCD, NIH), USA.
