Dr. Kamran Ali Chatha

Associate Professor

Strategic Sector Research Centre

Dr. Kamran Chatha is an Associate Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He joined SDSB in the year 2005 and since then has contributed to the school through his teaching, research and service. His current research interests revolve around digital manufacturing, digital transformation, and technology and innovation management. Previously he researched topics in the areas of manufacturing strategy, sustainable supply chains, open innovation, innovation management, and enterprise modeling using empirical, simulation, and system dynamics based research designs.

Dr Chatha has designed and delivered academic courses at all degree levels including PhD, EMBA, MBA and the Undergraduate levels in the domains of operations management, supply chain management, technology and innovation management, project management, problem solving and decision analysis, spreadsheet modeling, business process modelling, and system dynamics. His courses are considered to be both rigorous and relevant and challenge the students both intellectually and practically. He also has more than 14 years of experience in designing and conducing executive training programs. Since 2005, he has partaken in various open-enrollment executive training programs namely, supply chain management, project management, problem solving and decision making, factory management, and general management. He has also designed and delivered organization-focused (customized) training programs such as Project Management for MCB Bank, Management Development Program for AkzoNobel, and Management Development Program for Servis Industries Limited to name a few. He is director of the program, Roadmap to Manufacturing Excellence.

Dr Chatha also provides consultancy service to business organizations. In the past he has provided his services to organizations working in the textile apparel, software, furniture manufacturing, and bearing manufacturing sectors. And previously the focus of his interventions has been manufacturing strategy development, lean management in the design, engineering and manufacturing functions, value stream mapping, production process optimization, quality and cost control, technology and innovation management, increasing resource utilization, capacity management, and productivity enhancement.

He has also served SDSB (LUMS) through various administrative roles, the latest being the Associate Dean of Academic Programs. He played a key role in aligning school policies and standards with the school’s vision and implementing these, improving portfolio of academic programs, and uplifting quality of teaching and faculty capacity. Previously, he served in the capacities of Research Director, Director of PhD and MBA Programs, Director of Strategic Sectors Research Center, and Coordinator MBA and EMBA projects.

Dr Chatha holds a PhD degree in manufacturing engineering and management and an MS degree in Computer Integrated Manufacture, both from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. Prior to this, he completed his BS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. He has worked at Packages Limited and Dawood Hercules Chemicals Limited.
