Faculty Profile

Dr. Imtiaz ul Haq

Assistant Professor

Department Of Economics

I am currently the Aman Fellow at the Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute at Harvard University. I am on leave from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (Pakistan) where I am an Assistant Professor of Economics. I completed my PhD in Finance in 2013 from the Manchester Business School, University of Manchester. I earlier earned a Master’s in Finance from the same school and my Bachelors (Honors) in economics from the Lahore University of Management Sciences.

My research primarily focuses on understanding how individuals (and occasionally institutions) engage with financial services. I have studied preferences towards basic financial products (such as essential banking services from an inclusion perspective) as well as more advanced products (such as Islamic mutual funds). My research covers both developed and developing markets. My recent work examines how the poor in developing countries utilize formal and informal financial services to meet their needs.

In addition to academic research, I regularly contribute to policy work through collaborations with multilateral organizations as well as the provincial and federal government in Pakistan. I also take an avid interest in entrepreneurship, having founded a financial technology startup before becoming an academic.

In my spare time, I enjoy theater, trekking and badminton.
