Chemistry students at LUMS continue to thrive, as Waseem Afzaal adds another chapter to the success stories of Chemistry graduates from the University. Having defended his MS thesis a week ago, Waseem Afzaal has already received a fully-funded admission offer from the Department of Chemistry at Florida State University (FSU) in the United States of America.

Waseem Afzaal is currently a member of the Catalyst-Design Group headed by Dr. Muhammad Zaheer at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. His MS research work focusses on the development of supported catalysts containing ultra-small metal nanoparticles for renewable energy applications.

Waseem shares the story about his LUMS journey:
"Being an avid chemistry student, I always craved for an environment where I could explore more avenues in my subject and broaden my scientific approach. LUMS provided me with the state-of-the-art laboratories and world-class faculty which is involved in the cutting edge research and whose mentorship has equipped me with the contemporary standards and entrenched a scientific attitude in me." He said.

Since the launch of MS Chemistry Programme at LUMS in 2013, graduates have been successful in getting fully-funded PhD admission in world-class universities of the world. For instance, Fiaz Ahmed (MS 2015) and Muhammad Abdullah (MS 2016) are pursuing their PhD degrees at the University of South Carolina and University of Massachusetts Amherst USA, respectively. Zainab Liaqat another MS Chemistry student who graduated in 2017 is studying for her PhD at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, Germany on a fellowship by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

With a strong theoretical background augmented by the practical training in the world-class research environment, LUMS MS Chemistry graduates are highly sought after by organisations, Industry and educational institutes worldwide.
