Research and teaching interests: Project Management, Public Sector Project Management, Public Procurement, Sustainable Urban Futures, Responsible Business, Sustainable Water Resource Management, Sustainable Urban Waste Management
Zehra’s research and practice is interdisciplinary. From practicing Corporate Banking to studying Construction Project Management to initially researching knowledge sharing in facilities networks, she has finally settled down to teaching and researching Project Management, Procurement and Urban Sustainability (contributing towards SDG 11- Sustainable Cities and Communities). As the challenges and opportunities for developing more sustainable and just urban spaces grows, her empirical research on procurement of urban waste services and institutional management of urban water systems (both SDG 6- Clean Water and Sanitation) contribute towards a deeper understanding of our local institutional and private-sector practice for informed policy and practice interventions towards better achievement of SDG 6. Her work around green infrastructure and user’s pro-environmental behaviours links SDG 11 to SDG 13 (Climate Action).
She is a member of the International Council for Building (CIB), the Academy of Management (AOM), Faculty Member of the Responsible and Sustainable Business Lab (RSB Lab), Nottingham Business School (www.rsblab.org.uk) and is an Advanced Specialist for Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS). She is also an Associate of LUMS’ Centre of Water, Informatics and Technology (WIT) and a Faculty Fellow of the Punjab Government’s Strategic Monitoring Unit (SMU). Zehra has published in leading journals, presented work at leading international conferences, developed technical notes, cases and conducted consultancy work. She regularly reviews for world-leading journals and conferences.
She sees her greatest forte to be her passion for teaching. She has taught undergraduate, EMBA and MBA modules covering IT, Principles of Management, Project Management, New Product Development and Qualitative Research at SDSB, and several executive programs at LUMS’ Rausing Executive Education Centre (REDC). Her areas of executive teaching include Public Sector Project Management, Project Management and Public-Sector Procurement. She has been the Program Director of various organization-focused programs at REDC including those developed for MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company B.V.; the UNHCR’s Refugee Affected and Housing Areas (RAHA) Program, Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO), Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), the Government of Baluchistan, and a suite of programs for the Punjab Resource Management Program (PRMP) and Punjab Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA). She continues to engage with the industry at various forums and develop teaching cases in the above areas.
Zehra is a board member of Punjab Power Development Company Limyed (PPDCL) and Punjab Economic Research Institute (PERI) and remains engaged with public-sector institutions as well as industry partners in renewable energy, infrastructure, solid waste and water resource management sectors. Zehra works with various organisations including TeachForPakistan, Descon Power, WWF, Al-Jalil Builders and Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS,UK).
