CSO Guidance Session Held for SAHSOL students
On November 21, 2022, Career Services Office (CSO) invited Ms. Nimra Arshad for a Career Guidance Session for the students at the Sheikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL). The session was focused on preparing fresh lawyers for the challenges in the law field.
In this session, Ms. Nimra talked about her journey after completing her BA-LLB (Hons.) from SAHSOL in 2017. She pursued her LLM in 2019 with a focus on International Legal Studies from Georgetown University Law Center on a Fulbright scholarship in 2019. Ms. Nimra is currently a Senior Associate at Ashtar Ali LLP and an Advocate of the High Courts.
Ms. Nimra related her experience as a student to stay in the field of law despite facing many challenges. She spoke about the most common concern of the students to understand whether they are in the right field. Another challenge that Ms. Nimra identified was the financial struggle in the initial stages of her career. She reiterated that a fresh graduate needs to be mentally prepared for the significant challenge of financial limitations. For such situations, Ms. Nimra encouraged students to consider freelancing opportunities on the side such as contract drafting, taxation, and other similar work.
Ms. Nimra also guided students to emphasise on learning the ability of reading and understanding Urdu as most of the regional courts use it for passing judgments and orders. She also suggested the students to read the judgments of different cases to stay updated about the legal scenarios. When it came to deciding about post-graduation right after LLB, Ms. Nimra recommended that one should gain some experience in the field before considering LLM.
The session ended with a QnA session.
