LUMS and US Apparel Discuss Ways to Foster Collaboration on Sustainability
Representatives from US Apparel Mr. Siddique Bhatti, Director US Group; Mr. Salman Hafeez Malik, CEO US Apparel; Mr. Awais Tariq, Director US Apparel and Mr. Mustafa Ahmed, Head of Sustainability, discussed ways to foster collaboration on sustainability with a delegation from LUMS on April 11, 2023.
Representing LUMS were Dr. Sabieh Anwar, Ahmad Dawood Chair and Dean, Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), Dr. Tauqeer Abbas, Associate Professor Chemical Engineering, Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director Advancement and Mr. Anas Ashraf Ali, Head of Development, Office of Advancement.
Dr. Anwar provided an overview of SBASSE, and its research projects and highlighted the School’s commitment to promoting sustainability and innovation in research and education. The discussion focused on the issue of water conservation, with US Apparel sharing their current practices and achievements in this area. It has reduced its water usage by 31%, with a goal of achieving 100% reduction by 2050. Dr. Abbas suggested some ideas that US Apparel could implement to achieve this goal. He also briefed the attendees on the proposed Water Quality Lab at LUMS that will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
Mr. Bhatti added, "We are impressed by the work being done at LUMS and are excited about the potential for collaboration on sustainability and education initiatives. We look forward to working with LUMS to make a positive impact in our community and beyond."
Ms. Kamran shared the strategic developments at LUMS, the recent awards won on the global front for excellence, and the flagship National Outreach Programme. She also highlighted the University’s effort to become more accessible to talented students across the country.
Initiated in 2001, the NOP furthers the University’s longstanding vision of providing premium education to talented students across the country, regardless of their financial circumstances. The Programme has won the global Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Platinum Award 2021 in the ‘Best Practices in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’ category. The CASE Platinum Awards recognise world-class programmes and practices in educational advancement.
