Celebrating ‘International Day of Workplace Health and Safety’
Human Resources and the Office of Campus Health and Safety celebrated the ‘International Day of Workplace Health and Safety’ on April 28, 2023. The event, open to all LUMS staff and faculty members, was led by Tariq Sheikh and Dr. Zahra, who provided valuable insights into the importance of maintaining good health and safety practices in the workplace.
The session began with an overview of the health and safety services available at LUMS. Mr. Sheikh highlighted the various measures in place to ensure the safety of staff members, including fire safety protocols, emergency response plans, and first aid training. He emphasised on the importance of maintaining good health by following post-COVID-19 prevention measures and undergoing regular health tests.
Dr. Zahra added to the session by highlighting the need for awareness regarding common ailments. She discussed the harms of self-medication with antibiotics and painkillers and the importance of seeking medical advice before taking any medication.
Furthermore, the speakers shed light on the adverse effects of workplace hazards. The session ended with a lively question and answer session, during which staff members actively engaged with the speakers, followed by refreshments.
Attendees were pleased with the informative and engaging session, making the event a success. To ensure the well-being of all members of the LUMS community, Human Resources and the Office of Campus Health and Safety plan to continue organising such sessions in the future.
