LUMS Appoints Dean of Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering
Professor Walther Schwarzacher has been appointed as the Dean of the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), LUMS, where he will serve for a term of five years. He will also serve as Professor of Physics at the School.
Bringing a wealth of experience from senior academic roles in the UK, Professor Schwarzacher has been a distinguished Professor of Physics at the University of Bristol since 2005. His research portfolio spans electrochemistry, nanoscale physis, materials physics, and ice nucleation. Notably, he chaired the Electrodeposition Division of the Electrochemical Society from 2005 to 2007. With over thirty mentored PhD students, he is a strong advocate for interdisciplinary research, reflected in his thrice-awarded School of Physics Teaching Award.
Professor Schwarzacher’s commitment to fostering international research and learning networks is evident in his extensive experience across multiple continents. He designed and developed an international mentoring programme at Bristol, earning him the University Education Award. As the Graduate Dean at the Bristol School of Physics, he prioritised student welfare and expanded research opportunities for graduate students. He is also a member of Bristol University's Senate.
