Tetra Pak’s Senior Leadership Strengthens Ties with LUMS
On February 29, Tetra Pak’s senior leadership visited LUMS, signifying a strengthened partnership between the two. The delegation included Mr. Adolfo Orive, CEO, TetraPak; Mr. Awais Bin Nasim, MD; Mr. Misbah Burney, Director of Finance; Mr. Alamgir Ahmed, Director of Services; Mr. Waqas Ali, Factory Director and Mr. Muhammad Bin Shahzad, Sustainability Manager. Mr. Abdul Razak Dawood, Pro Chancellor, Mr. Shahid Hussain, Rector and Dr. Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor, LUMS were present to welcome the guests.
The guests' visit commenced at the Rausing Executive Development Centre (REDC) where Drs. Muhammad Adeel Zaffar and Shakeel Sadiq Jajja, Associate Professors, Suleman Dawood School of Business, showcased the Centre’s milestones, diverse programmes, and its significant impact on the business community. Discussions also highlighted REDC’s contributions to gender diversity, inclusivity, and the demand for AI-focused programmes.
Rector, Mr. Hussain praised REDC’s global influence. “The Centre has become a brand and the innovation that happens here impacts the world outside.” He also acknowledged that the Rausing family of Sweden, also personal friends of Syed Babar Ali, Founding Chancellor, LUMS are the biggest donors of the University. The family has sponsored the Centre, as well as helped build The Gad and Birgit Rausing Library at LUMS.
The conversation also explored ongoing and potential partnerships, with Dr. Cheema noting REDC’s role as a hub for local cases addressing various industry aspects. Talking about LUMS, he said, “LUMS has always stood for innovative education. The business programme came up when things had become completely stagnated. Business school’s alumni are currently placed at leadership positions across the world.”
The guests were also given a tour of the Gad and Birgit Rausing Library where Mr. Orive fondly posed in front of a photo of Drs. Birgit and Gad Rausing at the second Convocation ceremony of LUMS. Later the delegation was taken to the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE). Here, Dr. Walther Schwarzacher, Dean, SBASSE, presented about the work and achievements of the School and Dr. Zubair Khalid, Associate Professor, SBASSE talked about the projects already carried out or in progress between SBASEE and Tetra Pak. The guests were then given a presentation by Dr. Tauqeer Abbas, Assistant Professor, SBASSE and Associate Dean for Innovation and Enterprise on the work on waste treatment and the circular economy that he has carried out in collaboration with Packages Ltd. He also gave a live demonstration of water-based formulation he has developed for Packages Ltd. for plastic recycling. The Tetra Pak leadership were thoroughly impressed by this programme. Mr. Orive responded with great enthusiasm and expressed a keen desire to deepen Tetra Pak’s research relationship with SBASSE.
