Educators today need to be prepared to understand, evaluate, and address a wide range of challenges and rapidly changing circumstances facing students, families, and communities. To prepare you for this important work, SOE has crafted a set of foundation courses to help you gain the core skills, knowledge, and ways of thinking that are central to the profession of education. At the heart of the program is a core curriculum that lets you learn across a range of areas.
In the first year you will take 5 core courses, covering topics in
These will be supplemented with an Academic Writing course that serves as a refresher to help you polish your academic writing skills. Additionally, students will take a field-based, observing education systems course allowing them to expand upon their existing exposure to the diverse education systems across Pakistan. Similarly, the data analytics course will be supplemented with a Data Lab course to help students apply their knowledge of analytic methods on live education datasets.
From the second semester, you will be able to customize your learning experience through electives being offered within the School of Education. Students will also enroll in a preparatory course to work towards their final Practicum project.
The Practicum will give students real-time exposure to challenges in education leadership, encouraging them to address these issues by developing research-based solutions to problems encountered in the field. The practicum is the cornerstone of the Executive MPhil ELM and is itself a 6-credit course that enables students to apply their learning to solve innate problems facing the education sector of Pakistan.

Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility criteria in order to be considered for admission to the Executive MPhil Education and Leadership Programme.
Admission is purely merit-based and rests solely on the following criteria:
This is the minimum criteria that applicants need to fulfil in order to be eligible to apply. Fulfilment of this criteria does not guarantee admission to LUMS.
* We are aware that the current COVID-19 crisis poses difficulties for applicants to submit test scores. Under the circumstances, you can apply to LUMS Graduate Programmes without test scores being submitted (if you haven’t taken the test yet). Applications can be submitted without the GRE scores provided all other application components are complete upon submission.
If no Admission Test is scheduled due to the Test Center closure by March 30, 2021, LUMS will process applications using the available information. If shortlisted, applicants may then be asked to appear for an interview followed by a conditional acceptance if you are successful. Once, test centres are functioning, they will need to sit for the test and attain the minimum test score required by the University.
Applicants are required to take Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) in order to be considered for admission.
GRE (General)/GMAT is offered as a computer adaptive test worldwide. Apart from official test scores that LUMS will require directly from Pearson or Educational Testing Service (ETS) USA, applicants must submit or mail a copy of the unofficial GRE (General)/GMAT scores as soon as possible after taking the test. The LUMS code for receiving GRE (General)/GMAT scores from Pearson and ETS is 0679.
The admission application will be considered for evaluation after the successful completion of following Four (4) STEPS by the applicants on or before the stipulated deadlines:
Completion of all steps are mandatory. Applications, Documents or Fee received after the stipulated deadline will not be processed.
Application Processing a LUMS Test Registration Fee (If Applicable)
After the successful submission of the online application form through the LUMS online account on or before the application submission deadline, applicants will be able to print a system generated Application Processing Fee payment voucher. For further details regarding Fee payment options, please click here.
Proof of Payment
A stamped copy of the payment voucher or a confirmation email of an online banking transaction constitutes proof of payment. Applicants are required to send a copy of payment proof along with all other required supporting documents as ONE package on or before the stipulated deadline.
Applicants must print and paste the ‘Mailing label’ on the envelope before sending it to the LUMS Office of Admissions. Applications or documents received after the stipulated deadline will not be processed.
Shortlisted applications will be reviewed by the relevant committee to finalise admission decision. Applicants are encouraged to provide complete information regarding their academic achievement, research reports, attended workshops, extracurricular activities and must tell LUMS about their success stories in order to substantiate their applications.
A merit ranking of candidates shortlisted for interviews will be created based on academic performance, work experience and GRE (General)/GMAT scores of the applicants. Only short-listed candidates will be called for interviews. Evaluation for interview call is carried out based on a combination of factors such as academic track record, performance in GMAT/GRE (General), and work experience.
A minimum of 2 years of work experience is required, and a higher number of years of work experience will be highly preferred. We welcome a range of experience in applicants, from education managers, coordinators/administrators and education entrepreneurs in leadership roles to experienced school and/or college teachers seeking to transition to leadership positions. Our greater interest is to bring together a group of individuals with a keenness to contribute to education reform in Pakistan. In line with existing SOE practice, each candidate will be closely assessed, taking their relevant work experience into consideration. While diversity of work experiences ranging from classroom teaching to education entrepreneurship will be considered, evaluation will be based on the quality of each individual’s work experience.
Justification of Age
The applicants are required to have a minimum of Two (2) years of work experience, and a higher number of years of work experience will be highly preferred. This means that the age bracket falls into the category of 24 years and above. However, based on the nature of the education sector in Pakistan we can reasonably expect some applicants to have an overlap in education attainment and work experience, therefore, we are open to consider candidates from a younger age cohort than what would be expected from individuals with 2 years of full-time work experience.
We will be offering two programmes, namely; the Executive MPhil Education Leadership and Management and the MPhil Education Leadership and Management in Fall 2021.

The Executive MPhil ELM is a weekend-based, 2 year long programme. Classes are scheduled in blocks of alternative weeks throughout the duration of a semester. Each block comprises a full-day of in-person classes on Saturday, a relatively shorter stretch of classes on Sunday and a short online class mid-week on Wednesday in the evening. There may be some more asynchronous learning or other brief online sessions scheduled during the week to maintain student contact.
In order to reduce the need for students to travel to campus during the week, the programme has been carefully structured around alternative weekends with a brief mid-week online component to maintain student contact. The mid-week online class reduces the need to travel to campus for students who reside outside Lahore, limiting this travel time for in-person classes on alternative weekends only.

We discourage letters from individuals who only know you in a personal capacity (such as friends, family members, etc.).
If an academic referee is unavailable, you may obtain two professional references, where both recommenders can speak to your professionalism, work ethic and any project that you worked on with them.
You must provide the online form for a LUMS Letter of Recommendation to each person who is writing your letter. The interview is a key indicator of the potential of Executive MPhil ELM candidates to assume responsibility for advanced education decision-making, particularly in the Pakistani environment. During the interview the Admissions Committee tries to assess the applicant's leadership abilities, communication skills, aptitude for research thinking, and a level of awareness about Pakistani education. Final decision regarding admission is taken after the interview.
