The Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature, in collaboration with the LUMS Cultural Society and LUMS Student Council, is organising Haft Zubani Mela—a celebration of Pakistan’s rich linguistic heritage. This event brings together diverse voices to highlight the beauty, history, and significance of our many languages. Language not only shapes conversations but also plays a crucial role in defining cultural identities and histories. This event will focus on honoring linguistic diversity while emphasising the vital role languages play in connecting us to our past and future. The programme will feature a special talk by Dr. Khurshid Rizvi, a distinguished scholar of classical languages, who will discuss the importance of preserving and teaching classical languages in Pakistan. A certificate distribution ceremony will follow, honouring the participants of the three-month course, 'A Short Course on Sanskrit,' organised by the Gurmani Centre.
The event will also feature a Mushaira, with renowned poets Hammad Niazi, Fariha Naqvi, and Raz Ehtisham. An open-mic session will follow, where students will recite poetry in Punjabi, Pashto, Urdu, Balochi, Sindhi, Saraiki, Arabic, Persian, and more. Traditional food stalls and musical performances from various regions of Pakistan will also be presented, celebrating the vibrant cultural tapestry of our multilingual heritage.
The evening aims to engage the audience in meaningful discussions about the role of language in shaping cultural, literary, and national identities. Join us in celebrating linguistic diversity and investing in the continued promotion of our languages, as we strive to build understanding and appreciation across cultures.
