About the Speakers
Phil Baty is an authority on international higher education policy and university performance and he leads on government partnerships and global affairs at Times Higher Education, the trusted data, insights and consultancy partner to universities, corporates and governments worldwide. With over 25 years in the sector, Phil developed the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings and its derivative analyses, created the THE World Academic Summit, and oversaw its expansion into the world’s preeminent series of university leadership and policy events. Phil is also an award-winning journalist, a sought-after keynote speaker, media commentator and consultant. He is a a dedicated international programmes specialist with extensive experience in higher education and development sectors who wishes his work to inspire change.
Tim Sowula joined Times Higher Education in 2016 as head of content and engagement before becoming World Summit Series editor in 2022. He has led the growth of THE’s global dialogues for senior leadership and is passionate about supporting the most ambitious and progressive strategies relating to growing university impact, sustainability, and innovation. Previously, he spent six years at the British Council, managing the external communication of its global portfolio of education and civil society projects. Tim has published articles in print and online for a variety of international publications on international development, politics and social justice, and produced film and radio projects. Before settling in the UK, he worked in Bangladesh and the US.
