The documentary film Buhay Khulay Rakhi (Keep the Doors Open), produced by Dr. Ali Usman Qasmi and Dr. Ilyas Ahmad Chattha, and directed by Nida Mehboob, is a compelling historical narrative that delves into stories of violence, displacement, and resilience during the Partition of 1947.
This evocative documentary sheds light on the often-overlooked experiences of children separated from their families during Partition. It shares the poignant stories of Qari Farooq and Fazal Ahmad, two infants abandoned during the chaos, who were lovingly adopted by Sikh and Dalit families before being repatriated to Pakistan due to their Muslim heritage. Through personal testimonies, expert commentary, and rare archival material, the film explores themes of trauma, identity, and belonging, offering a profound exploration of healing and reconciliation.
