August 17, 2020 to September 12, 2020
Estimates and forecasts of crop type mapping, yield estimation, forest carbon stock dynamics, tree species mapping, time series analysis of forest- Deforestation, and forest degradation and time series analysis of agriculture – Phenology, are of critical importance to policymakers for the planning of agricultural production, monitoring of food supply and management of forest resources. The importance of agriculture and forests for a country like Pakistan is significant and well known. The satellite remote sensing applications in forestry offer great advantages and can lead to better monitoring, planning and management of forest resources in the country. The operational use of satellite-based open source information to monitor climate, crops and forests at daily to seasonal scales along with models for integrated analysis, provides cost effective means to support decision making process.
Date: August 17, 2020
Duration: 4 Weeks
Hours: 2.5 Hours / Days: 2 days a week
Total Hours: 20 Hours
Workshop Objectives:
This workshop aims to train professionals from relevant institutions on satellite data analysis for agriculture and forest monitoring. In addition, this training will provide knowledge on theoretical foundations of optical remote sensing and microwave Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data analysis, with hands-on practice in relevant satellite data analysis by utilising Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform, ESA Sentinel Applications Platform (SNAP), and other related software. The training is also expected to initiate and foster further training by the workshop participants to promote institutional capacities in use of Earth Observation technologies for the agriculture & forest sector.
