LUMS Alumni Reunite at Homecoming 2023
Amidst an evening of camaraderie and celebration, the University reunited with its alumni on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the annual Homecoming.
The most anticipated reunion of the year, Homecoming serves as the perfect opportunity for alumni to reconnect with old friends, beloved faculty, and cherished classmates in a nostalgic celebration.
The event commenced with a heartfelt speech from Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director of Advancement and MBA '88 alum, that highlighted the University’s significant accomplishments over the past year. She went on to congratulate the alumni for the remarkable advancements, and for their efforts to continuously give back to the University.
Rector, Mr. Shahid Hussain highlighted significant endeavours undertaken by the University and encouraged alumni to support it. He also touched upon holding onto the values and lessons they learned during their time there.
Acting Vice Chancellor and Vice Provost, Dr. Tariq Jadoon announced this year’s Vice Chancellor’s Alumni Achievement Awards (VC AAA), recognising and celebrating the winners for their exemplary accomplishments across sectors, including contributions made, and services rendered in communities locally and around the world. He said, “It is up to us to join hands and collaborate to make a difference in other people’s lives—we have that privilege.” Speaking on behalf of the cohort, Mr. Yahya Iqbal Ismail, MBA ’97 alum accepted the recognition and said, “The work being done by alumni is making LUMS proud on an international scale. We humbly accept this award and ensure that our work doesn’t stop here.”
Pro Vice Chancellor, Mr. Abdul Razak Dawood, addressed the benefits of the University’s extensive alumni network, and acknowledged the importance of maintaining the community. “LUMS has done many wonderful things over the last 40 years, and we have trailblazed in many areas. One of the areas is the association the University keeps with all of you. It is crucial that we stay connected, work together, and build a better future for our wonderful country,” he added.
Alumni also enthusiastically participated in an entertaining game of trivia with questions about LUMS. Playing for prizes, the audience had a fantastic time answering questions about the University.
Standing in solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters, the annual musical evening was swapped for an insightful and thought-provoking conversation between Mr. Adeel Hashmi and Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra about the true essence of education and the importance of raising future generations to be good humans. They also discussed the benefits of the alumni network and all that LUMS is doing to ensure the University and its students benefit society.
A delicious dinner enjoyed by the alumni was followed by Speed Networking, a chance for alumni, staff, and faculty alike to get to know each other closely; the rapid-fire and timed conversations made for an exciting evening activity for everyone.
As the evening drew to a close, an electrifying raffle had the alumni on the edge of their seats, brimming with excitement as they anticipated winning prizes; it turned out to be a hit! Such an entertaining Homecoming would not have been possible without support from the event's gold sponsor, PepsiCo.
