LUMS Shortlisted for Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2022
LUMS has been shortlisted for the Student Recruitment Campaign of the Year and Excellence and Innovation in the Arts categories for the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2022. A record number of 500 entries submitted nominations to compete for these coveted awards. LUMS submissions are in the top eight entries that will now be competing in the final round.
Known as the ‘Oscars of higher education', THE Awards have been part of the UK higher education calendar for 14 years and were taken overseas for the first time in 2019.
These awards recognize outstanding leadership and institutional performance and celebrate Asia’s higher education institutional excellence in all of its diversity.
THE’s Chief Knowledge Officer, Phil Baty, congratulated the shortlisted institutions saying, “We saw entrants from all corners of Asia and the Middle East submit their best work for THE Awards Asia. The Covid-19 pandemic has continued to cast a shadow over higher education institutions, and your brilliant response to its challenges – rich in innovation, clear thinking, and sheer hard work – is still in evidence. Inevitably with so many entries, we have already excluded countless wonderful stories in reaching this final stage, so the 80 of you featured on this year’s shortlists should be incredibly proud of making it this far.”
The Excellence and Innovation in the Arts category recognises “the pioneering work that is taking place in universities to promote the arts” while the Student Recruitment Campaign of the Year focuses on innovative campaigns for student recruitment.
Vice Chancellor, Dr. Arshad Ahmad said, “We are delighted to receive the distinction of being shortlisted in two categories this year. This recognition speaks the University’s aim to make quality education accessible to underrepresented groups. It also highlights our faculty’s commitment to pedagogical innovation.
Sikhvirsa Pakistan was highlighted in the Arts category as a special project that benefited from multidisciplinary collaboration between the History and Computer Science departments at LUMS.
In addition, the National Outreach Programme has been transformational for beneficiaries, their families as well as their communities.”
The final winners of each of the categories will be announced at this year’s THE Asia Universities Summit scheduled to take place on May 31, 2022 at Fujita Health University in Japan.
