Al-Moiz Industries and Thal Industries Pledge Support to the National Outreach Programme
An MoU signing ceremony was held on October 13, where Al-Moiz Industries and Thal Industries pledged their support towards the National Outreach Programme (NOP) at LUMS.
Initiated in 2001, the NOP furthers the University’s longstanding vision of providing premium education to talented students across the country, regardless of their financial circumstances. The Programme has won the global Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Platinum Award 2021 in the ‘Best Practices in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’ category. The CASE Platinum Awards recognise world-class programmes and practices in educational advancement.
Vice President Corporate, Communications and CSR wings, Mr. Iftikhar Babar, and CSR Officer Mr. Toqeer Ahmed were present at the ceremony. They were joined by senior representatives of LUMS including Vice Chancellor, Dr. Arshad Ahmad; Director Advancement, Ms. Nuzhat Kamran; Partnerships Liason, Ms. Sadaf Rehman; Deputy Manager Gifts, Imran Nadeem and Assistant Manager Stewardship, Ms. Zainab Tayyab.
Dr. Arshad Ahmad thanked the team and said, “Our students are on significant financial aid and every third student at LUMS is on some form of scholarship. We are also interested in forming stronger alliances and partnerships with industries such as Al-Moiz Industries and Thal Industries, and would be happy to collaborate on other avenues such as research and development, particularly on the agri-business side.”
The organisations will sponsor a NOP scholar each from their respective regions of Mianwali, Bhakkar, D.I. Khan, Chiniot and Layyah. Mr. Babar explained, “We operate in multiple diverse areas, and are particularly interested in CSR activities that would make a difference within Pakistan. We have been associated with the National Outreach Programme for the last two years and would like to support more scholars through this programme.”
Al-Moiz Industries is one of Pakistan’s leading innovative and sustainable producers of high-quality sweeteners, bio-energy and allied products, and services. The sugar units of Al-Moiz Industries Limited are involved in the production of sugar through sugarcane and sugar beet while Al-Moiz Steel is also involved in the production of steel through a state-of-the-art steel melt shop plant situated in Dera Ismail Khan. Thal Industries Corporation Limited (TICL) is an affiliate company of Al-Moiz Industries, and has established itself as one of the most reputable sugar mills in Pakistan. Their manufacturing units are in Layyah, Lalian and Chiniot.
The organisations have been involved with various CSR projects, including their affiliation with Al-Moiz Model Schools, LUMS and their collaboration with Ali Institute.
