LUMS Champions Energy Efficiency in Partnership with UET Peshawar
LUMS has strategically partnered with the Buildings Energy Research Centre (BERC) at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar, to advance research and development in energy-efficient building designs. To formalise the partnership, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the institutions on August 29, 2024, in Peshawar.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost, LUMS, and Dr. Qaisar Ali, Vice Chancellor, UET Peshawar as part of the ‘Transformation of Construction Sector in Pakistan: A Pathway towards Clean, Green, and Sustainable Buildings’ project, supported by GIZ Pakistan and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Accompanying Dr. Jadoon at the ceremony were representatives from the LUMS Energy Institute, including Mr. Faisal Javed Mughal, Ms. Navaira Najeeb, Mr. Muhammad Talha Saeed, and Ms. Zafeera Ahmad. Key officials from UET included Dr. Naveed Ahmed, Director, BERC; Dr. Rizwan M. Gul, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical, Chemical, and Industrial Engineering, UET Peshawar; and Dr. Khizar Azam Khan, Registrar, UET.
With this collaboration, LUMS and UET Peshawar will work to tackle Pakistan’s energy challenges through joint research projects, conferences, trainings, and consultancy services. Both institutions will explore new research opportunities, work on pilot projects, and conduct studies to address energy demand management.
Expressing enthusiasm for the collaboration, Dr. Jadoon noted that it marks a significant step toward advancing energy-efficient building practices in Pakistan.
“Through this partnership, supported by GIZ Pakistan and funded by BMZ, we aim to introduce innovative research practices and training initiatives that align with our shared commitment to environmental sustainability,” Dr. Jadoon stated. “As two of the country’s leading educational institutions, we are responsible for driving societal change. Together, we are poised to drive innovation and promote a cleaner, greener future for the nation.”
