Bain & Company Recruitment Drive 2021
The Bain & Company Recruitment Drive 2021 was held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 via Zoom, and was cumulatively attended by over 150 students and alumni.
The session was opened by Pakiza Khalid, LUMS Alumna and Consultant at Bain & Company. She, and the rest of the team members introduced themselves, following which Ms. Khalid shared the overview and agenda of the day. Then Mr. Nadir Akram, Partner at Bain & Company, took over and talked in detail regarding how LUMS has been the target university for Bain over the past few years. He mentioned that 90% candidates hired from LUMS are still working at Bain across a variety of industries and capabilities over the past 6 years. He then shared the message of the Company as well as the core values, which are adherence to the highest professional standards, bringing significant improvement in clients’ performance, and creating an unrivaled environment for exceptional people; forming the True North Value they follow. He also stated that Bain is the place to learn and create value in business as there are unparalleled career opportunities inside and outside of the Company. Moving on, Mr. Akram gave an overview to the students about their work type at Bain that includes working with many of the world’s most exciting companies across diverse sectors. He then shared their different stories in which he mentioned a few projects they have done at Bain.
Mr. Akram then handed over the spotlight to Mr. Faisal Sheikh, Partner at Bain, who highlighted the main reasons why clients choose Bain. He also talked about the values and learning spirit at the Company and talked about their adherence to a set of values we called ‘True North’ which means directness and honesty. He emphasised the importance of staying humble and true to oneself, which is another principle they follow in the Company. Furthermore, Mr. Faisal talked about the two aspects of their training; Formal Training, which is designed from real cases led by senior trainees at Bain, and Apprenticeship, which entails personalised staffing, coaching and mentoring. Mr. Faisal then highlighted the diverse culture and flexible career path at Bain.
Moving ahead with the agenda, Mr. Rehan Elahi, LUMS Alumnus and Consultant at Bain, took over and talked about why they work in the Middle East. He discussed how working in the Middle East entails incomparable personal and professional growth opportunities. He talked about the booming emerging market, economic dynamism and high quality of life, which significantly enhanced their work culture. He also shared the long history of Bain in the Middle East and their commitment to the region. Furthermore, he talked about the diverse team at Bain by mentioning that there are over 40 nationalities that serve the office in the Middle East. He also shared the gender ratio and language diversity at Bain.
Mr. Elahi then handed over to Mr. Adam Mukhtar, LUMS Alumnus and Senior Associate Consultant, Bain, who talked about his first two years at the Company. He shared his case experience and the diversity of cases he worked on, and also gave an overview of his formal training at Bain by telling the audience about global events and vast learning exposure at every point. Next Mr. Akram, gave an overview of what they look for in applicants and stated that they prefer the whole package, equipped with passion for excellence and personal growth. Along with experience and expertise, a person's character must also reflect humility and kindness.
Finally, Ms. Khalid shared the details of their recruitment process and how to apply. She also elaborated on assessments and interviews, while sharing useful tips to tackle the application process at Bain.
The drive was concluded with an interactive Questions and Answers session.
