Careem Conducts Information Session at LUMS
The Career Services Office (CSO), LUMS, in collaboration with Careem's Engineering leadership conducted a virtual recruitment information session and tech talk on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, for the BS Computer Science and Engineering Students of Class 2022 and alumni.
The session was commenced by Mr. Selim Turki, ISEAD MBA, who joined Careem as a Director of Product-Market Fit. Mr. Turki, with his 70 member team, is currently building a Data and Aritificial Intelligence (AI) hub for Careem in Pakistan. Sharing the history and progression of Careem, he explained that Careem was fortunate to have a strong purpose right from the start, which was “to simplify and improve the lives of the people and build an awesome organisation that inspires”.
As he shared details of Careem's wide range of services, Mr. Turki elaborated on how the company is giving back to the ecosystem and inspiring entrepreneurship in the region. He mentioned that in 2020 Careem Become the first company to offer its employees the chance to permanently work remotely.
Later, Mr. Lamak Qaiza, Engineering Manager talked about all the data software that they use at Careem and how they are improving every day in the handling of their data. Mr. Qaiza also shared the vision of Careem for 2022; to become the region’s most trusted super app simplifying the lives of people every day.
In the end, Haris Salman, Talent Acquisition Partner - Tech, shared the details of theEngineering Falcon Program and explained the recruitment process. The Engineering Falcon program is for fresh graduates during which Careem will give students the knowledge of their tech and give them the opportunity to work on new initiatives. Experienced professionals will also get the chance to join the tech team. The recruitment process includes an application process followed by a technical test and interview.
The session then concluded with an interactive question and answer session.
