Empowering Education, Inspiring Change: Bank Alfalah and LUMS Collaborate for Impact
On November 5, 2025, LUMS welcomed representatives from Bank Alfalah Limited to sign an agreement establishing a partnership focused on sustainability and inclusion.
The ceremony, attended by Mr. Atif Bajwa, President and CEO of Bank Alfalah, marked the beginning of a collaboration to strengthen student support, enhance research opportunities, and drive long-term national impact.
Senior members of Bank Alfalah’s leadership, including Dr. Muhammad Imran, Group Head Islamic Banking; Ms. Mehreen Ahmed, Group Head Retail Banking; Mr. Faisal Farooq Khan, Chief Human Resources Officer; Mr. Raheel Yousuf, Chief Marketing Officer; Mr. Khaldoon Bin Latif, CEO, Alfalah Investments; Mr. Talal Ali Raza, Head of Distribution; Mr. Jamal Ansari, Head of Consumer Finance; Ms. Madiha Javed Qureshi, Head of Corporate Communications; and Mr. Talha Hyder, Manager Corporate Communications, were also present.
LUMS was represented by Syed Babar Ali, Founding Pro Chancellor; Mr. Abdul Razak Dawood, Pro Chancellor; Mr. Shahid Hussain, Rector; Dr. Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor; and Management Committee members Mr. Hyder Ali and Mr. Faisal Dawood.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bajwa reflected on Bank Alfalah’s growing commitment to social responsibility and sustainable giving, saying, “We’ve learnt from the best how to give back to society and to the country. That is a philosophy we live by. Every year, we are looking to increase our CSR budget. Just in the last three years, we have grown it three or four-fold. We try to be as responsible a corporate citizen as possible and give back to the community, to the country, and to our colleagues who benefit from the spirit of giving.”
Through this partnership, Bank Alfalah will support National Outreach Programme (NOP) scholars and financial aid students, contribute to the Centre for Islamic Finance Endowment Fund, and facilitate the establishment of the Air Quality and Climate Lab at LUMS. Together, these initiatives reflect a shared commitment to tackling Pakistan’s educational and environmental challenges.
Syed Babar Ali commended the strong representation from Bank Alfalah and stressed on the transformative power of education, “We are very grateful to you for taking this initiative. The real purpose of good education is to have a better society and to build Pakistan on a solid base. My request is that as your bank progresses, keep us on your radar, because there is no better investment in Pakistan than in education as it produces the next generation that will make our country.”
Symbolising this partnership, Syed Babar Ali presented a special token of appreciation to Mr. Bajwa.
Expressing gratitude for the collaboration, Mr. Abdul Razak Dawood remarked, “It is a great pleasure and honour to have you here. For LUMS, as a progressive university, the challenges never end. We are very happy when you say you are looking to us for the long term. Thank you for making LUMS part of your CSR programme.”
Dr. Naveed Arshad, Director, LUMS Energy Institute, presented the Centre’s cutting-edge research on air quality and climate change. Dr. Saad Azmat, Director, Centre for Islamic Finance at LUMS, highlighted the Centre’s pioneering contributions to research and education in Islamic finance.
