LUMS Alum Dr. Haris Aziz Promoted to Professor at UNSW
We’re thrilled to celebrate LUMS BSc ’03 alum, Dr. Haris Aziz, on his promotion to Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). UNSW is one of Australia’s top research universities, a founding member of the prestigious ‘Group of Eight’ research intensive universities in Australia and a member of the Universitas 21 international consortium.
Dr. Aziz has built an inspiring career with a global impact in Game Theory and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Recognised by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), he has also been named Australia’s national field leader in decision sciences and is listed among the world’s top two percent of scientists, according to a Stanford University-led study published in PLoS Biology. Dr. Aziz has held visiting positions at Oxford, Harvard, and Paris Dauphine, and serves as an Associate Editor for leading AI journals.
His research spans AI, theoretical computer science, and mathematical economics, addressing areas such as ethical healthcare rationing mechanisms, fair resource allocation in organ exchanges, participatory budgeting, and autonomous robotics. His innovative work tackles complex, real-world challenges with impactful solutions.
