On March 6, 2020, the Centre for Business and Society (CBS) and the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), in collaboration with the UK-based, QalandarArts, organised a musical evening to celebrate International Women's Day.
Dr. Zehra Waheed, Director CBS, welcomed the guests and spoke about the International Women’s Day 2020 campaign theme, #EachforEqual. Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor LUMS, also addressed the guests and spoke about the importance of coming together to celebrate diversity and inclusiveness. It was mentioned amidst much applause and appreciation that LUMS is on its way to becoming the first ‘period-friendly’ university in South Asia with plans to install 10 vending machines across the Business School offering feminine hygiene products.
Dr. Ahmad also shared that the Business School offers a 50% scholarship to all women accepted into any of its Masters programmes. In addition to this Scholarship for Women, the Business School is offering a 50% scholarship to the top 10% applicants, both women and men, admitted to any of their new Master of Science programmes in Business and Public Policy, Healthcare Management and Innovation, and Technology Management and Entrepreneurship.
After the discussion, Mr. Hassan Khan, Founder QalandarArts, introduced the artists and officially opened the floor for the performance. The event was graced by UK based renowned musicians, Ustad Shahbaz Hussain and Zayn Muhammad. In the spirit of inclusivity and harmony, special guests for the event were the staff and their families from the Salvation Army.
