LUMS Student Leads Team Pakistan to Victory at International Economics Olympiad
LUMS is proud to share that Muhammad Shahwali Najmi (BSc Economics with Minor in Environmental Studies, Class of 2026) led Team Pakistan to an outstanding victory, securing 1 Silver medal and 2 Bronze medals at the prestigious International Economics Olympiad (IEO), held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The IEO brought together high school students from 68 countries to compete in economics, finance and business challenges. Shahwali was selected as Team Leader through the Pakistan National Economics Competition and Dream 3 Counsellors, where he distinguished himself through exceptional leadership and dedication.

As Team Leader, Shahwali’s responsibilities included recruiting the national team, coaching and preparing members for the competition, and leading Pakistan’s delegation at the Olympiad. He also served on the Business Case Jury, evaluating presentations from international teams on complex business challenges.
Under his guidance, Team Pakistan delivered an impressive performance across the Business Case, Finance and Economics sections, earning international recognition for their skill and preparation. Their success is a reflection of the team’s talent and Shahwali’s commitment to guiding them toward excellence.
