OPPO visits LUMS to Discuss Research in 5G
To explore areas of collaboration and partnership in 5G research, a delegation from OPPO visited LUMS on April 20, 2022. The delegation included Mr. Stoney Liu, CMO South Asia; Ms. Yang Gu, Brand Director South Asia; Ms. Manyu Song, HR Manager South Asia, and Ms. Khizra Waqar, Public Relations Manager Pakistan.
Alumnus Mr. Anwar Kabir (MBA 2007), CEO Brand Spectrum, Mr. Mahad Arif, Senior Client Service Manager Brand Spectrum and Mr Saif Baig, Senior Manager PR and Digital Brand Spectrum were also present at the occasion.
Representing LUMS were Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director Advancement and Ms. Sadaf Rehman, Partnerships Liaison at the Advancement Office. Faculty members from the Computer Science department were also present including Dr. Zartash Afzal Uzmi, Associate Professor Department of Electrical Engineering; Dr. Zafar Ayyub Qazi, Assistant Professor Department of Computer Science; Dr. Basit Shafiq, Chair and Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science; Dr. Tauqeer Abbas, Assistant Professor Chemistry & Chemical Engineering; and Associate Professors Dr. Ijaz Haider Naqvi and Dr. Momin Ayub Uppal.
The Department of Computer Science at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) features a highly research-active faculty, and it conducts rigorous research. Research opportunities focus on computer networks, computer vision, data mining, software engineering, big data, artificial intelligence, and robotics, as well as on projects of practical socio-economic significance. Dr. Qazi presented an overview of the various themes and projects which the Computer Science department is currently working on and highlighted the work being done in 5G.
On behalf of OPPO, Ms. Gu presented an overview of OPPO and its journey in technological advancement since it was established in 2004. She commented on the value of academia-industry collaboration to strengthen OPPO’s leadership in cutting edge technology and innovation. “We are looking forward to partnering with top universities, academic institutions, and hi-tech enterprises in the region. These strategic partnerships will support our initiatives in the areas of 5G and 6G research.”
