Omer and Maleeha Mahmood Scholarship Fund Set Up for National Outreach Programme
In the spirit of giving back and advancing accessible education, Omer Mahmood, Vice President of Software Engineering - Workforce, Workday, and his wife, Maleeha Mahmood (MBA 2002), Senior Associate at Armanino LLP, have pledged PKR 34 million to set up the ‘Omer and Maleeha Mahmood Scholarship Fund’. The fund will sponsor one National Outreach Programme (NOP) scholar at LUMS in perpetuity.
The NOP offers up to 140% scholarship, which covers tuition, books, living stipends, and lodging. To date, over 850 NOP scholars have graduated. Recently, the NOP won the prestigious Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Platinum Award 2021 in the ‘Best Practices in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’. Representing the Asia-Pacific region in the international round of this competition, this recognition is proof of the Programme’s embodiment of the core principles of diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Omer and Maleeha are passionate about making quality education accessible to all. They said, “Education and exposure to the unique environment at LUMS sets up students to make a real difference in Pakistan and abroad. We have already witnessed the impact the NOP has had on students, their families, and their communities. We feel blessed to be part of the NOP movement to uplift talented and deserving students to change their future generations."
