Karachi Alumni Community Come Together for Annual Reunion
Nostalgia was in the air on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Marriot Hotel, Karachi where the annual Karachi Alumni Reunion was held. Reunions are a one-of-a-kind opportunity for alumni to reflect, reconnect, and celebrate, and that’s just what this get-together was for the second largest LUMS alumni chapter.
Hosted by the Office of Advancement, the alumni had the chance to meet the Director of Advancement, Nuzhat Kamran, and LUMS Vice Chancellor, Dr. Arshad Ahmad at the reunion. The evening opened with an overview of the newest directions that LUMS is taking, including a video on the groundbreaking ‘No Borders’ agenda the University is working on, bringing together its collective research and faculty expertise through a number of Institutes and Centres.
This was followed by an address by Ms. Kamran, who shared the latest updates from Advancement at LUMS, and encouraged the alumni to stay engaged with their alma mater, and to seek out opportunities that will help bring together the larger LUMS community and also enhance the University’s growth. In this effort, she also introduced the newly formed Karachi Alumni Working Group, which includes Alhani Khawaja Nizamuddin (MBA 1998), Abdullah Akhtar (BSc 1998), Abdul Lateef Bawany (MBA 2005), Saman Qureshi, (BSc 2006), Samie Cashmerie (EMBA 2007), Muhammad Taimour Abdullah (BSc 2013), Ahsan Chawla (BSc 2015), Ismail Ashfaque (BSc 2018), Hafsa Naeem (BSc 2019), and Danish Feroz Ali (BSc 2019), who have all been selected as the University's newest ambassadors.
The alumni also had the chance to hear from Dr. Ahmad, who shared stories about his time growing up in Karachi, and the lifelong connection he has with the city. He then went on to tell the alumni about the incredible new undertakings at LUMS, including all the ways in which the Karachi alumni community is and continues to be such an integral part of the LUMS network. He also expressed that the fantastic turnout of over 250 alumni proves their commitment to LUMS.
With the anticipation of meeting old friends, the reunion was a wonderful opportunity for the alumni to reminisce over a delicious dinner. A huge part of the evening’s celebrations was a fantastic music performance by the multi-talented artist Ali Sethi, who had the entire alumni audience enthralled.
A reunion as engaging and exciting as this one would not have been possible without the sponsorship of two Karachi alumni-led organisations; the Burque Corporation, and the platinum sponsor of the evening, Faysal Bank. Thanks to the generous patronage of these industry partners, the Karachi alumni had the chance to experience a truly memorable reunion and are now rallying to engage through many more such events in the future.
