Dr. Jeff Redding Appointed Dean, Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law
Dr. Jeff Redding has been appointed Dean, Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL). He comes from the University of Melbourne where he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Melbourne Law School. He has also previously held research fellowships at Yale Law School and Harvard Law School. He is the recent author of A Secular Need: Islamic Law and State Governance in Contemporary India (University of Washington Press, Global South Asia series, 2020).
Dr. Redding has a long and close association with the LUMS community. After studying Economics and Sociology at Harvard University and receiving a J.D from the University of Chicago, he found a special affinity to Asia and more specifically, Pakistan. After working as a Visiting Research Associate at the Sustainable Development Policy Institute in Islamabad, he began working with several colleagues in SAHSOL at LUMS.
As an Adjunct Faculty member, he taught courses including Law and Politics in Pakistan in 2001 and joined LUMS again as Visiting Faculty in 2014 to teach Comparative Law. He believes strongly for SAHSOL to have a multidisciplinary orientation playing a fundamental role in strengthening Pakistan’s legal education and legal practice.
Dr. Redding believes that SAHSOL has the resources, perspective, and skills to contribute to the tasks ahead for Pakistan, South Asia, and the world. In his role as Dean, he aims to collaboratively work with his talented colleagues to enhance the school’s international, regional, and local reputations and reach.
