Empowering Futures: USAID and HEC Delegation Visits LUMS to Celebrate Scholarship Impact
On January 15, representatives from USAID and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) visited LUMS to engage with beneficiaries of the USAID-funded Merit and Need-Based Scholarship Program (MNBSP).
The MNBSP, in collaboration with HEC, provides talented yet financially constrained students the chance to study at top universities in Pakistan. As a partner university, LUMS has led numerous students through this programme, enabling them to realise their academic and professional dreams.
The delegation, including Ms. Asima Rehman, Deputy Director Education, USAID; Mr. Haroon Raheem, Sr. Education Advisor, USAID; and Mr. Muhammad Azhar Ali Khan, Director MNBSP at HEC, interacted with some of the scholarship recipients. Students and alumni beneficiaries shared how the scholarship programme had opened avenues for them and helped them succeed in their academic and professional lives.
One alumnus reflected, “The USAID-MNBSP scholarship was life-changing. It gave me opportunities I never imagined and helped me grow into a professional.”
Ms. Rehman expressed her appreciation for the University's contributions, "LUMS has a huge impact in the country. Our USAID scholarships perform so well in collaboration with the University. Alumni support can make big things happen for the scholarship recipients."
USAID has been a valued partner of LUMS since the University’s early days, contributing significantly to its development and supporting various research initiatives in collaboration with HEC. Through programmes like MNBSP, USAID continues to empower students, providing them access to world-class education and helping them make meaningful contributions to their communities.
