LUMS National Outreach Programme Goes to Abbottabad
Every year, the National Outreach Programme (NOP) Centre plans its annual outreach to seek bright yet underprivileged students across Pakistan and promote the message of higher education.
The team conducted visits and sessions in different schools and colleges of Abbottabad, which lies in a cradle of historical sites and landmarks. It boasts an array of educational institutions with some of the brightest minds. The team visited Batrasi, Haripur, Mansehra, Havelian and for the first time, Qalandarabad was added to the list of suburbs to be visited.
Students were informed of how they can apply to the NOP Summer Coaching Session (SCS) and how the session places them on the right track for admission to the LUMS Undergraduate programme on a 100% scholarship. In line with our motto, the team had primarily focused on visiting female schools and colleges in Havelian, Hairpur and Mansehra, resulting in 1500 students being informed about the scholarship.
During the outreach, attendees of the Summer Coaching Session (SCS) 2022 joined the Team at Government Post Graduate College, Mansehra to encourage junior students to apply for the National Outreach Programme. At the same time, students from intermediate humanities backgrounds were also encouraged to apply to the programmes offered at Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS) at LUMS.
Student exploration of different related avenues has always been encouraged by the NOP Team. In this regard, a special session was held for pre-medical students to consider pure sciences offered at Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE).
Furthermore, walk-in sessions were also conducted in colleges where prior appointments had not been set – seeing the stellar reputation of the LUMS NOP, these institutions warmly welcomed the team and facilitated the session.
Teachers and counsellors of the schools and colleges were assisted and informed about guiding students on how to apply for the NOP SCS for better results and increased induction of students. This year, LUMS-NOP looks forward to seeing an increased number of applications for the NOP Summer Coaching Session from this area.
