LUMS and Planning and Development Board Collaborate for Economic and Policy Advancement in Punjab

As part of a framework of cooperation, LUMS has signed an MoU with the Planning and Development (P&D) Board, Government of Punjab, dedicated to advancing economic and public policy, and sustainable development. Through collaborative research and technical support, this long-term research and policy engagement will allow LUMS to inform policies in Punjab.
At a ceremony attended by Chief Secretary Punjab, Mr. Zahid Akhtar Zaman, the MoU was signed by Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Acting Vice Chancellor and Provost, LUMS, and Dr. Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Chairman, P&D Board. Additional partners include Lahore School of Economics, Government College University Lahore, and the University of the Punjab.
The main aim of this partnership is to establish a long-lasting relationship that emphasises the importance of research and the development of well-informed economic policies in the province. To achieve this, a variety of events and activities will be organised, including special lectures, online and in-person seminars, workshops, panel discussions, conferences, and training sessions. Designed to cover a wide range of topics, the goal is to foster social and economic growth in the region.
Chief Secretary Punjab, Mr. Zaman shared that this partnership would play a vital role in facilitating robust, evidence-based policy formulation in the province of Punjab. He also stressed the need for students to be involved in identifying issues and increase understanding of all stakeholders.
On establishing a lasting partnership between LUMS and the Government of Punjab, Dr. Jadoon said, “LUMS has a proud history of partnering with public institutions, leveraging academic research to facilitate informed policymaking. This partnership is another step in our ongoing commitment to contribute to the national dialogue and policy decisions through scholarly expertise.”
In his remarks, Chairman P&D Board, Mr. Sahoo emphasised P&D Board’s vital role in determining the economic direction of the province. The collaboration, he added, will be instrumental in enabling evidence-based policy formulation supported by excellent, research-backed insights.
