The Department of Economics at LUMS, the Mahbub Ul Haq Research Centre (MHRC), the Consortium for Development Policy Research (CDPR), and Rizq announce a collaborative workshop titled “Access, Resilience, and Sustainability: Pathways to Food Security in Pakistan,” bringing together academics, policymakers, practitioners, and students to discuss the future of food systems in Pakistan.
Pakistan continues to face escalating food-related shocks — from climate-induced floods and heatwaves to price volatility and supply chain disruptions — exposing the fragility of its food systems. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action), this workshop will explore how Pakistan can strengthen food systems to be more resilient and sustainable.
The workshop will bring together a diverse set of voices from research, policymaking, and on-ground practice. Speakers include Dr. Sher Afghan Asad (LUMS), Amina Bajwa (Food and Agriculture Organization), Dr. Abid Burki (LUMS), Nisar Ahmed Sani (Provincial Disaster Management Authority), Taimur Malik (Drawdown Farm), Dr. Mahmood Ahmad (Rizq, LUMS), Faisal Hassan (Progressive Farmer), Muhammad Asim Javed (Punjab Food Authority), Dr. Maham Ashfaq (Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance), and Musa Aamir (Rizq).
The session will feature two panel discussions: the first will explore the food security challenge in Pakistan, while the second will focus on pathways to build more resilient, sustainable, and equitable food systems.
