LUMS Advances Legal Reform with IMI-Certified Mediation Skills Training
Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL), in collaboration with Musaliha International Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (MICADR) and the Legal Aid Society, has taken a significant step in institutionalising mediation in Pakistan. From May 30 to June 3, LUMS senior leadership, faculty, alumni, and staff at the School completed a 40-hour, accredited mediation training certified by the International Mediation Institute (IMI). Delivered by experts Sohail Khoja, Fehmida Ajanee, Shahzar Ilahi, and Sarha Rasheed, the programme focused on interest-based negotiation, ethical facilitation, and dispute resolution across legal domains.

This initiative comes at a time when Pakistan is formalising mediation through judicial policy, international commitments, and legislative interest. With the country’s accession to the Singapore Convention and over 40 court judgments endorsing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), the shift is both urgent and necessary.

The university’s commitment reflects a growing demand for timely and cost-effective dispute resolution, with mediation now playing a central role in legal training. It is at the forefront of this transformation.
